Taiwan's stunning 106-year-old mountain railway.

Travel on newly introduced cruise-style tours on the century-old Alishan Forest Railway, a network of 71.4 kilometers (44.4 miles) of narrow-gauge rail lines in central Taiwan's Alishan mountain range.

"Alishan Forest Railway is a priceless cultural heritage [for Taiwan]." says Tang Yu-chin, a spokesperson of AFRCH. "Therefore, preserving Alishan Forest Railway isn't just for tourism purposes but for promoting this culture."

TopRail: Tourism Potential of Railways group met from 13 – 14 September in Athens

The members of TopRail, the UIC working group created to help raise awareness around Tourism Potential of Railways, had the chance to meet again, this time in Athens.

The meeting, effectively organised by our colleagues from Trainose, was attended by railway representatives from the railway operators of Austria, Hungary and Spain as well as representatives from the European and the World Tourist Trains and Tram associations (Fedecrail and Wattrain).


Collie’s Heritage site now open for lease interest.

The National Trust of Western Australia is seeking expressions of interest for the first time to lease the former railway Roundhouse in Collie and to find possible tourism and community options for the building.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust (A1SLT), the registered charity behind famous new 100mph steam locomotive No. 60163 Tornado and Britain’s most powerful steam locomotive No. 2007 Prince of Wales, today announced that it had formed a new subsidiary, The V4 Steam Locomotive Company Limited, to carry out the building of its third new steam locomotive – the yet-to-be-named new Gresley class V4 No. 3403 –  as part of its preparations for the formal launch of the project
