Some of the key objectives will be to promote rail as a sustainable, green, innovative and safe mode of transport and to promote European cross-border partnerships enhancing sustainable tourism, innovation, employment, education, youth, culture and accessibility. This should be a great opportunity for member organisations to share this initiative with their national tourist boards and create a joint marketing initiatives.

Heritage Railway Association of the UK and Ireland (HRA) resign from Fedecrail from 1st January 2021.

With the UK transition period coming to an end on 31st December 2020 and after the UK referendum decision in 2016 to leave the EU, the Heritage Railway Association of the UK and Ireland (HRA) has decided to resign from Fedecrail from 1st January 2021. Having been a founding member since Fedecrail’s creation in 1995, the news of its imminent departure has been received with some sadness

The Achensee Steam Cog Railway ..nominated to the 7 Most Endangered Programme 2021.(Fedecrail)

The Achensee Steam Cog Railway is the only public railway in the world that, since it was opened in 1889, still uses all of the equipment of a late 19th-century railway system. These elements are steam-locomotives, passenger carriages, an engine-house with sliding platform, workshop, rails, dams and bridges.
In the spring of 2020, the Achensee Railway company went bankrupt and the subsidies which were promised by the Tyrolean provincial government were not disbursed by autumn. This authentic example of European industrial heritage is at risk of fast deterioration due to lack of maintenance to ensure its original and continuous function.

New track to be installed at Colyford Crossing as track maintenance continues through Winter closures.(Seaton Tramway)

Permission has been granted by Devon County Council to undertake works to Seaton Tramway’s Level Crossing at Colyford, with works taking place 4th -12th January 2021. Work will see the removal of the existing tramway tracks, to be replaced with new rails and foundations under and across the carriageway.
