WATTRAIN was pleased to host the second virtual meeting on the effects of Covid-19 on heritage rail operations.(Tuesday 24th November 2020)

Although the overall effect is extremely challenging to the sector to varying degrees in different parts of the world, it was most encouraging to note the mutual support offered, and the innovative ways different heritage railways and museums are coping in an effort, where possible, to keep a flow of visitors through their particular locations.

The 90 minute meeting, hosted by Courtney Wilson (Patron, WATTRAIN) was moderated by Stefano Benazzo(President,WATTRAIN.) There were 26 attendees from around the world, representing (almost) every continent.

Seaton Tramway is sorry to announce that it is no longer able to run THE POLAR EXPRESSTM Tram Ride in 2020.

 

A Spokesperson said “After working endlessly throughout the year to provide a COVID secure event for your families to enjoy, we have always been optimistic that we would still be able to offer this magical Christmas experience. However the new national lockdown, along with the uncertainties surrounding what will be allowed after the 2nd December, means we are simply unable to set up and deliver this event.

UK: Heritage railways react positively to improving safety and the coronavirus pandemic.(Office of Road and Rail)

The non-mainline heritage rail sector has taken steps to improve how it manages safety across its railways and has been praised by the Office of Rail and Road for how it has managed the reopening of its railways since the coronavirus pandemic.

The rail regulator says it supports the action the Heritage Railway Association (HRA) is taking in developing a strategic approach to increasing its capabilities. There has been significant improvements in its leadership to the sector, most visibly by developing and promoting proportionate ways to manage safety risk.


12th UIC Covid-19 Task Force web-conference held on 22 September 2020

The 12th meeting of the UIC Covid-19 Task Force was attended remotely on 22 September 2020 by almost 60 participants from across the globe.

Marc Guigon, Chair of the Task Force, welcomed the participants and gave an update on the global situation, the latest figures related to the Task Force members, the latest RAILsilience guidance documents and future publications. He took the opportunity to welcome the newest member to the Task Force, SZCZ (Czech Infrastructure Manager).

The rail regulator says it supports the action the Heritage Railway Association (HRA) is taking in developing a strategic approach to increasing its capabilities. There has been significant improvements in its leadership to the sector, most visibly by developing and promoting proportionate ways to manage safety risk.

This includes plans to develop a Heritage Safety and Standards Board aimed at increasing cross sector cooperation, sharing safety related information, and delivering an important role in developing, reviewing and promoting proportionate ways to manage safety risk.
